So I decide to us free demo's from sound cloud which the owners have consulted to the use of their music in my movie. Also, all the music featured has been for the advertisement of the owner of the music. I used  tracks such as "Because I can Kill" & "No Excuses" by Robert Luna to create a form of mystery and cryptic element. However, I used "TSL (Take so Long)" by Pride to show the emotional connection between the boyfriend (Bolaji) and his girlfriend (Zara) when they were have having a conversation over the phone.

Mise En Scene

Setting/Location: I decided to set my opening sequence  firstly in the soft seating area in the sixth form block of   Rainham School for Girls (Derwent Way, Gillingham, Kent ME8 0BX). Originally, I wanted to set my opening sequence in my home, which would have given the idea of a relaxed homely environment. However, I decided to film it within the school to create a more professional appeal. By setting it in this environment I have been able to give the illusion of importance of what the men are discussing, which means the audience would want to pay more attention to the opening sequence. The second location I used was the field/ forest of the school. I did this out of sheer luck I originally wanted to shoot the woodland scenes in the Walderslade Woods because it has a very ominous appeal. However, I decided too use the school woods because e filming within the woodlands would have required a lot of artificial lighting due to the darkness created by the trees arching over. in addition to this the weather was too good to pass up on the fog added mystery without completely  handicapping the ability of seeing/clarity of the footage.
Walderslade woods
Walderslade woods
The image bellow was taken similar to the time of  filming, which shows a very dark and mysterious forest in the middle of the day.  If I had decided to film in the middle of the day also it would have been to dark and the camera would not be able to pick up on the actors and it would have been a wasted day of shooting.

Other Locations:

Fort Horsted: Fort Horsted, Primrose Close, Chatham, Kent, ME4 6HZFort Amherst:Khartoum Road, Chatham ME4 4UB
Fort Borstal : Cookham Hill, Rochester, Medway ME1 3NTRochester Castle : Rochester, Kent ME1 1SWLighting: I used artificial lighting in the first location because it was a  confined location, which without being heavily lit would not be visible to the camera. however, I made sure the lighting reflect the right amount of ambience to encourage the boy to share his feelings with his friend. If I was able to use to reshoot my opening sequence I would want to use equipment such as  soft boxes, barn doors, umbrellas and a flash head reflector because it would eliminate any grain in my movie.

Costumes

Best Friend: A Burton Suit , Alexander Wang Smart Shirt, a M&S Tie and a Pair of Salvatore Feragamo Plain Toe Derby shoes. I chose this outfit because I wanted him to reflect wealth and formality. By him  wearing this outfit he is unconsciously placing him self higher up the chain/ corporate ladder.
Boyfriend:  A pair of black H&M skinny legged chinos with a black Armani T-shirt, a pair of Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Black Canvas and a blue(teal) vintage parka jacket. I picked this to give the illusion of him being dressed down and open. by dressing him like this the audience is able to see a contrast between  him and his friend. However, his shoes demonstrate his class and that he is abler to afford designer brands.
Girlfriend: A pair of Primark acid wash high waisted jeans, a New look print scarf, a Matalan penguin jumper, a Matalan Green Parka and  a pair of white All Star Converses. I decided to choose these clothing's because they do not signify any form of drastic wealth.

Fonts

I looked at various fonts, and one thing I noticed among all of them which was a common factor was the lack of clarity. A lot of the fonts appeared to be aesthetically pleasing but where un-distinguishable: which meant that the audience would not be able to even read the title. This  would play a key factor in to whether or not people wanted to watch the film or not. For example by using the font 'Outline' I would only be directing my film to Mostly pre/teenage girls as they would believe the film would be about varsity/cheer leading topics. I decided to look at fonts such as 'Centurio' because they are universal and have no set age groups and also is very clear.
I then went on to look for the colour in which i wanted to set my font in. i decided to look for a font which would portray the thriller theme and would  also sit well on a black background. I decided to choose red because it  is a universal symbol for emotions such as  hatred, anger, warning or death. All the Characteristics which it represented where all in my film. I also, decided to  go with a black background because of it represents  bad people, mystery, or secrecy. These where also factors which played a part in my film.

I researched into Titles and there orders and found the common trend of this order:

  1. NAME OF THE STUDIO)
  2. (NAME OF THE PRODUCTION COMPANY)
  3. POSSESSORY CREDIT/S
  4. STARRING
  5. (FILM'S TITLE)
  6. FEATURING
  7. CASTING or CASTING BY
  8. MUSIC or MUSIC COMPOSED BY or ORIGINAL SCORE BY
  9. PRODUCTION DESIGN or PRODUCTION DESIGNER
  10. EDITOR or EDITED BY.
  11. DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
  12. PRODUCER or PRODUCED BY, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
  13. BASED ON THE BOOK (PLAY, GRAPHIC NOVEL etc.) BY or FROM A PLAY/BOOK BY (older movies).
  14. BASED ON THE CHARACTERS BY or BASED ON THE CHARACTERS CREATED BY
  15. (SCREEN) STORY or STORY BY
  16. WRITER(S) or WRITTEN BY or SCREENPLAY or SCREENPLAY BY
  17. DIRECTOR or DIRECTED BY

Due to further complications  I have decided to work on my own which I believe would be highly beneficial and allow me to have full creative control....

Firstly, I have decided to continue with the original script for 'INTERCEPTION'. However i plan to change the title after filming.
Secondly, I plan to start filming  shortly and incorporate the ideas from the script from my love for you.
Thirdly, I have decided to incorporate the use of poetry/rhymes  to create suspicion.
Finally, I  have decided to incorporate the use of a narrater. which i believe would add a form of depth to the opening scene.

Production Timetable & Visual Feedback

Friday 20th November- inside  (3:00-4:30)

If you where unable to read what was on the video read the following paragraph: Day 1 of filming was quite successful  We were able to do most of the shots. However, due to last minute changes in characters some of the cast were unable to stay for longer that 30-45 minutes, which means I  was forced to  film fast or risk having to film everything again.   This was something   I didn't want to do because some of the cast may wear a different costume. The weather turned out to be a happy accident because  it added mystery to the filming. However, it caused problems with the clarity of the filming which during editing I had to take in to consideration because when I  was change the hue and saturation I  had to make sure I made it brighter so the viewer can see through the fog.

Thursday 27th November-  school filming 10:00- 11:45

If you where unable to read what was on the video read the following paragraph: Day 2 of filming I decided to change who my main male actor was due to his accent, which I believed would make it harder to understand the message he was trying to convey and the pronunciation of the words.  I also wanted to have a British accent because in most movies with a villains  the villain usually has a British accent. I decided to also include additional shots such as my tracking shots  of the "villain" I decided to add more to create confusion and a form of  deception of the audience. I also, decided that because I had a new main actor I decided to film more shots such as extreme close ups so I could add some more versatility and also I believed it  would allow the poem to become a sequence  rather than a speech.

Pitch and questionare feedback

The Pitch...

The feedback from our pitch was very positive. The only concern they had was the safety of the actors. Due, to the locations, and props we will be using. Such as a kitchen, forest, roads and a knife. They where concerned about the kitchen because of the cooker and the probable open fire. However, we where able to make some adjustments to the scenes by restructuring the use of the kitchen and the kind of prep the actors do inside of it. Then we removed the use of roads because there is a possibility of the actor endangering their life when crossing the road. In addition, to this we decided to use a conserved woodland area within our school to minimise risk of intruders and unwanted visitors who may cause a disruption to the movie opening.  We also restricted the use of the knife to only putting it in the basket.

Questionnaire Feedback...

The feedback from the questionnaires where very positive and highly anticipated. Due to the  nature of the movie which may offend some audience members.
we decided to give our questionnaires to people within our target audience, our focus group said that they would all be interested in watching a movie of this nature and it wouldn't offend anyone. in addition to this they referred to the plot as "interesting" and "heart wrenching".  They believed the age rating was spot on due to the use of offensive language and nature of the movie.

Make Up

We decided to give the girlfriend character a black eye, and bloody nose  to add the theme of  abuse and kidnap. We also believed it would make the scene of her being hit and hurt more realistic. In addition to this we believed it would demonstrate how defenceless she was in the sight of her  attacher.  Also, it would help the audience connect with the girlfriend and they would become empathetic towards her.

Make up artist: Lucy  Oniyide (me)
Model:Natash Kamdy
Photographer: Jessica Morgan

New Plot/ Narrative

Due to recent developments, the departure and abandonment of a member of our group. We have had to alter our original ideas on location, script, props and cast members. Which has led to a disturbance in our scheduling and plan to start filming.

Plot: A teenage boy ends up being at the centre of a murder inquiry after his girlfriend goes missing supposedly on her way to meet him. But, she has actually been kidnapped by the boys best friend and family in an attempt to make the world pure.

Narrative: A boy plans a romantic picnic for his girlfriend with his best friend, but on her way to the date she misdirected by anonymous text message thinking it her boyfriend she follows the instructions but ends up being kidnapped.

Age Certificate and Target Audience

For our final piece we decided to put the age certificate for our thriller as a 15. We decided on this certificate because due to the use of  drug taking, frequent violence and the use of  strong language; which would be considered as inappropriate for either a U, PG, 12 or 12A. When we first of all started looking into age certificating, we believed our thriller opening would be  an 18. However, after researching  according to the British Board of Film Classification an 18 is described as "Films rated 18 are for adults. No-one under 18 is allowed to see an 18 film at the cinema or buy / rent an 18 rated video. No 18 rated works are suitable for children".  Which was not suited to our target audience. The target audience we chose is 16 to 24. we chose this age group because we believe that the  opening of our  movie will appeal to people within this group . We  also chose this target audience because these age groups have money without major responsibilities and would most likely want to go to the cinema with their friends or loved ones.

Thriller Project.02

                             Narrative

We came up with various ideas for  an opening scene. We tried to think of 3 main things while writing:
Firstly that something dramatic needs to happen which draws the viewer; for example in the movie Scream 4 in the opening scene it features a movie inside another movie which is constantly making you think about what may happen next.
Secondly we needed to give the viewer some insight into what may happen in the movie without giving away too much. For example, in the opening scene opening scene of the hit comedy American Pie the reunion it is obvious about what will happen in the movie due to its predictability.
Thirdly, and lastly, we need to create suspicion, so we need to build up the plot without filling the movie with double entendres/ cliffhangers. For example the biggest fault with the movie 'James Bond 007' is its use of double entendre which made it confusing for the viewer.

Double entendres  meaning a word or phrase open to two interpretations, one of which is usually risqué or indecent.

The clip of James Bond 007- Double Entendres

The first idea we had was to have a mad man who is obsessed with luring young girls to their grave  by feeding on their blood  in the hope of staying young. He does this by going to clubs , and finding these underaged girls whose parents are most likely unaware of  them being their. Then by being assisted by bar staff he drugs them using day rape drugs  and drains their blood.

                  ' The CANNIBAL'

The second idea we had was to have a man who stalks people who he believes are "unsure", and "unworthy" to be alive, with the intention of killing them. He determines this by class system, hierarchy, gender, sexual orientation and race. It starts off with a homeless girl who he tries to lure in with the promise of a warm bed and food.

                                                 ' EXTERMINATION'

the third idea we had which we ended up using was of Physiologically damaged 19 Year old boy falls obsessively in love with a gorgeous blonde… and three friends. He  takes it upon himself to seduce them in a bid to make them fall in love with him without them knowing about one-another.  He is so physiologically damaged that he has trust issues which leads to him stalking and controlling their lives. But one day one of the girls find out how ill he really is  and in the bid to cover up his secret he commits murder.

Thriller Project

We came up with various ideas for an opening scene. We tried to take 3 things into account while writing the story line. Firstly, somehing dramatic needs to happen to drw the viewer into watching the rest of the movie. Secondly, we need to make sure not to give away the whole plot of the story.  Thirdly, we need to create suspicion which will help build the plot of the; while not making it a movie with constant cliff hangers.

The first idea we had was to feature a mad man who is obsessed with staying young. So in his obsession he finds the belief of eternal youth through drinking the blood of the young. However,  he only preys on young girls who sneak into club due to the fact they tell their parents their at a friends house when they aren't.  So he is undetected. He does this through day rape drugs and alcohol.   [THE CANNIBAL]

The second idea  we had was to have this man who stalks people and intends to whip out anyone who is "unwanted" or is "unpure" in his sight. He starts off by offering a young girl who ran away from home a place to live and shelter. Then he tries to trap her and torture her to death.

The third idea was the one we choose which is about a control freak boyfriend  who is obsessed with his girlfriend and get life. Which when she finds out about it she is killed and then suspicion is turned to him and who ever comes close to finding out is killed. Also, he is not only dating one girl he's dating  multiple girls at the same time.

Quotes we may use in the narration

“...I will exile my thoughts if they think of you again, and I will rip my lips out if they say your name once more. Now if you do exist, I will tell you my final word in life or in death, I tell you goodbye.”
― Knut HamsunHunger
“After all, what is happiness? Love, they tell me. But love doesn't bring and never has brought happiness. On the contrary, it's a constant state of anxiety, a battlefield; it's sleepless nights, asking ourselves all the time if we're doing the right thing. Real love is composed of ecstasy and agony.”
― Paulo CoelhoThe Witch Of Portobello

“He uttered a curse that startled her with its foulness, and gripped her head between his hands, forcing her to stare at him. His voice was savage. "For twelve years I have been in constant torment, wanting you in my arms and believing it would never be possible. I want you for a thousand reasons other than your legs, and...no, damn it, I want you for no reason at all, other than the fact that you're you. I want to shove myself deep inside you and stay for hours...days...weeks. I want morning and noon and nightfall with you. I want your tears, your smiles, your kisses...the smell of your hair, the taste of your skin, the touch of your breath on my face. I want to see you in the final hour of my life...to lie in your arms as I take my last breath.”
― Lisa KleypasAgain the Magic
what has been highlighted in red is what we are considering to use.

Preliminary task

Preliminary Task: Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my blog. My name is Lucy Oniyide and I am an AS Media student at Rainham School for Girls. For my preliminary task  I and my group where assigned the project of creating a 15-30 second clip of a conversation, which had to include a person going through a door, shot reverse shot, match on action and do this while maintaining the 180 degree rule. The 180 degree rule would actually turn out to be the hardest to follow because it is extremely difficult to maintain it while  trying to achieve some shots. Which would result in the actor swapping sides; this would lead to lack of continuity. As a group we came up with multiple ideas such as being offered illegal substances at a party which entails a girl being encouraged by her friends to take them.  Also, we came up with a girl and a boy in a relationship trying to break up with each other using 'cheesy lines' commonly seen in movies; for example "its not you, its me". However, we ended up going with the idea that a boy who kills  his girlfriend and is now having a  physiological break down which leads to a battle between his good and bad side(conscience).

Story Board

The first frame presents our actor (Brenya Thomas) in a remorseful state in which he contacts the bad un-remorseful side of his conscience, that they need to have a discussion. This frame contains a mid shot of the actor, we did this so we would be able to see the actors body language as well as his the emotion on his face. The second frame contains an extreme close up on the hand of the actor from the point of view of the actor as he walks through the door. We did this because it is a stereotypical shot to show the viewer that either something is either wrong or the villain is approaching; which I believed added suspicion to the frame. The third frame is of the actor coming through the door in a quite obnoxious way, behaving as if their is nothing wrong. We did this as a long shot because we believed it would emphasis on what he was wearing, and a suit is seen as formal and pretentious( usually warn by there 'bad' guy).

The first frame here shows the actor in an oblivious state, not acknowledging why he was there and also not acknowledging the emotions of the good conscience. We did this as a close up to eliminate any distractions in the background and distinguish what the actor is saying. The second frame shows the actor feeling angry, annoyed and patronised by the other conscience. I believed he felt this way because in that scenario I myself would feel angry if someone asked me that question despite me showing you that I'm obviously not. We did this as a close up to emphasise on the actors emotions and also so the viewer is able to acknowledge the emotional shift in his tone and facial expression. The third frame the bad conscience demands not to be shouted at. we used a mid shot to show his body expression which helped make the scene more climactic.

The first frame displays the good conscience actually being quite the opposite because he starts to blame his mistake on the bad; which is often done by the bad person who is being selfish and denying  any responsibility for his actions. The second frame shows the bad side defending himself against the accusation made. He does this by ignoring the accusation but he then goes onto  points the blame at his deceased girlfriend. The third frame then goes onto the good conscience wallowing in the guilt, sadness and misery he has brought onto himself.

The first frame features the bad side leaving and saying that he should just move on theta the girl is dead. The second, and last frame shows the good conscience crying because he is filled with regret of her death. Also, we had the last 2 frames like this so that the good is reminded that no matter what he does he can't change the fact that she is dead which is why he is crying.

Mise-en Scene

Setting/Location: We set the short film in our schools sixth form common room (Derwent Way, Gillingham, Kent ME8 0BX) because of the booths. We did this because we wanted to create a form of isolation to so that he is alone in his predicament. Also in a lot of movies when something  suspicious is going on it is set in a booth.
Lighting: we used artificial lighting because we where filming in an enclosed space which meant that the clip would appear extremely dark and blurry.
Costumes: we choose a white shirt for the good conscience because we wanted to reflect his persona through his costume. For example in various films such as Evan almighty(2007 Morgan Freeman) God is seen to be dressed  in white reference to God being seen as good and pure. Where as we dressed the Bad conscience in a suit because a lot of times in movies the bad guy is either ironically in a suit or just the 'bad' business man.  For example in the movie the Dark Knight Rise(2008) The Joker (Heath Andrew Ledger) is seen in a purple suit which is ironic because it is the opposite of what a clown would wear.
